The Bureau of Customs ports of Clark and Ninoy Aquino International Airport jointly foiled the smuggling of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P13.8 million.

In a statement, the BOC said the illegal drugs was discovered in a shipment declared as containing “microserver double stairless ceramic” that arrived in Clark from Bangkok, Thailand on January 2.

Officers inspected the shipment after x-ray scanning showed a suspicious image. They found four three-liter stainless sport jugs containing white crystalline substances wrapped in plastic and aluminum foil.

Samples of the suspicious substance were taken and turned over to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for chemical laboratory analysis.

PDEA confirmed the substance was methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “ice” overseas and “shabu” locally, a dangerous drug under the Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the shipment.

Operatives from BOC Clark, NAIA and PDEA arrested two individuals in follow-up operations in Pasay City. The suspects face a possible charge of violation of RA 9165.

The illegal drug shipment is in the custody of PDEA for further investigation.
