  • ATI reported a P1.8 billion net income in the first nine months of 2022, up 20.2%, driven by higher cargo and passenger traffic in ATI’s Manila and Batangas ports
  • Nearly 170,000 completely-built units of cars handled, up 80% y-o-y, and more than 1.6 million outbound passengers carried, a 252% surge, in the two ports
  • More than 1 million TEUs of containers handled in Manila South Harbor and Batangas ports

Port operator Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) posted a 20.2% hike in its January to September net income to P1.8 billion, driven by higher cargo and passenger volumes handled by its Manila and Batangas ports.

Revenue reached P9.78 billion in January to September 2022, up 19% from P8.22 billion in the same period last year, ATI said in a regulatory disclosure.

Revenue from ATI’s international container operations in Manila and Batangas increased 16.8% and 5.7%, respectively, while revenue from its non-container operations in Batangas was 68% higher due to the strong influx of international rolling cargoes and the robust rise in passenger foot-traffic through the new Batangas Passenger Terminal after the easing of COVID-19-related travel restrictions.

For the containerized cargo segment, ATI’s Manila South Harbor and Batangas ports handled a consolidated volume of more than 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) from January to September, reflecting modest growth with indicators of sustained volume acceleration into the holiday season.

Batangas port also handled the resurgent car imports of local manufacturers and distributors that reached nearly 170,000 completely-built units, an 80% year-on-year growth.

BPT, whose newly completed Phases 1 and 2A were inaugurated in June, served more than 1.6 million outbound passengers, 252% more than last year’s traffic.

Spanning 15,000 square meters, the upgraded BPT can now serve around 3,500 passengers at any given time. Phase 2B of the project will further increase capacity to 6,000 passengers at any given time and will make it the biggest passenger terminal building nationwide.

BPT is equipped with world-class facilities such as an expansive and fully airconditioned passenger lounge, orderly ticketing offices, clean and gender-neutral restrooms, provisions for free wi-fi and clean drinking water, and mobility features for the elderly and differently abled, among others.

The terminal also has huge overhead digital boards advising passengers on the schedule of departing vessels, their designated boarding gates, and other relevant announcements.
