The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has officially opened Mindanao’s longest flyover, the 1.035-kilometer Tagum City Flyover.
DPWH acting Secretary Roger Mercado on November 19 led the ceremonial unveiling of the marker and drive-through of the P2.490-billion Tagum City Flyover in the most strategic intersection of Daang Maharlika (Agusan-Davao National Highway) and Surigao-Davao Road.
The intersection also serves as a gateway to the northern provinces of Mindanao, drawing in traders of agricultural products, manufacturers and investors in the services sector from Southern Mindanao.
The Tagum City Flyover is seen to contribute to a more robust economic development not only in Tagum, the center of Davao del Norte, but also in the whole Mindanao region.
The flyover is also seen to address traffic congestion not only at the major intersection but at several other minor intersections situated at short distances from the major intersection.
Likewise, it is expected to help ease traffic flow around the malls and other commercial establishments situated in the vicinity.
