Spanish shipbuilders eye collaboration with MARINA

Two Spanish shipbuilders are eyeing to collaborate with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to help modernize the domestic fleet.

In a meeting with MARINA chief Sonia Malaluan on February 20, Astilleros Gondan Shipbuilders and Cintranaval said they are willing to share shipbuilding technology.

In the meeting, Astilleros Gondan Shipbuilder showcased its high-quality ships and facilities.

In the same vein, Cintranaval, a ship design expert with 60 years of experience, presented its ships and engineering solutions. Having completed projects for over 600 ships across more than 30 countries, the shipbuilding and repair company based in Spain highlighted its extensive expertise and capacity to MARINA officials.

The meeting brought to light the maritime agency’s role in fostering international partnerships and investments within the country’s maritime sector, engaging shipbuilders to encourage economic growth, boost infrastructure development, and job generation.

MARINA officials also extended invitations to the shipbuilding companies for upcoming events, including the 3rd National Shipyards Convention in Cebu City on April 16-17, 2024, and the 9th PHILMARINE 2024 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Pasay City on June 19-21, 2024.

The meeting was attended by MARINA Chief of Staff and Shipyards Regulation Service (SRS) Director Ramon Hernandez; representatives from Astilleros Gondan Shipbuilders, including Alvaro Platero, owner and chairman; Guillermo Martin, chairman of Cintranaval, Javier Tudiri, Cintranaval commercial director; Carlos Gastón, CEO of Lantai21 Partners; and Marivic Aquino, president of MVMA International.
