General aviation flights are barred from using NAIA within a certain period due to the visit of US president Barack Obama.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has barred some flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in relation to the April 28-29 visit of US President Barack Obama to Manila.

In a notice to airmen, the aviation regulator said general aviation such as business jets, flight training planes, fish runs and food runs are not allowed to fly to NAIA within the prescribed period.

Only scheduled commercial flights and scheduled cargo flights are allowed to operate, with delays expected upon the arrival of Air Force One, the US presidential plane.

CAAP deputy director general Capt. John Andrews said all aircraft arriving and departing at all four NAIA terminals on those two days would encounter delay due to special operations.

CAAP-Operations Rescue and Coordination Center chief Jo Lim said the temporary restricted area or no fly zone covers a radius of 21 nautical miles (38.89 kilometers) to 40 nautical miles (74 km) from the Manila approach at NAIA.

Affected no fly zone for general aviation aircraft are the NAIA general aviation area, Sangley Point, Lipa and San Ildefonso airports.
