THE Committee for Accreditation of Cargo Surveying Companies (CACSC) has approved the application of Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) as a bulk cargo surveyor.

Earlier, Cotecna Philippines, Bureau Veritas and Intertek also received their accreditation.

As an accredited surveyor, SGS will issue cargo survey reports for Philippine bulk and break bulk shippers. The report is submitted to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to support import declarations. It will form the basis for the BOC to determine correct dutiable weight, quantity, description of goods in tariff terms, and/or cargo make or quality.

The cargo survey and advance clearance system for bulk and breakbulk cargo imports are contained in Administrative Order (AO) No. 243-A. Under the AO, advance information on such shipments is required 12 hours prior to their arrival in any Philippine port.
