SBMA relaxes accreditation rules for port users

Port_usersThe Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) has eased accreditation requirements for port users at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ).

The new set of requirements under the latest rules for provisional accreditation are:

  • Business registration from place of business with the Department of Trade and Industry, Cooperative Development Authority, or Securities and Exchange Commission (Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws and General Information Sheet)
  • List of employees and vehicles going in and out of SBFZ (driver’s license, Land Transportation Office registration)
  • License/permit or other issuances from the government agency requiring authorization to engage in the business activity being applied for (i.e., Philippine Shippers Bureau accreditation for freight forwarding, and Bureau of Customs accreditation for customs brokers)
  • Certificate of Good Standing to be issued by a national organization (for instance, the Philippine International Seafreight Forwarders Association [PISFA]), or endorsement from the port terminal operator Subic Bay International Terminal Corp.

The provisional accreditation will be evaluated and approved by the SBMA, and stakeholders have six months to comply with other requirements.

Application fee is US$200 (or its equivalent in Philippine peso at current exchange rates), and accreditation is valid for one year. There is no need to pay another $200 once accreditation is approved after the provisional period.

PISFA officials earlier made representations with SBMA chairman Roberto Garcia to relax the accreditation requirements for port users, who they said should not be subject to the same rules as freeport zone locators.

The officials noted some port users have limited trips to Subic and when they do, do not linger in the zone. – Roumina Pablo

  1. Good day

May I ask where can i request for Certificate of Good Standing Performance from the coastal at SBMA? hoping for your favorable response regarding this matter

    Thank You

    • Thanks for getting in touch. But can you kindly be more specific with your question?

Without additional information, we can only tell you that a Certificate of Good Standing Performance comes from the SBFZ Locator-Client. And this is a requirement when renewing the certificate of accreditation (manpower services, security services, janitorial/messengerial services and port-related services).

      Hope this information helps.
