President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has re-appointed Atty. Jay Daniel Santiago as general manager of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).

Santiago’s appointment paper was signed on October 21. He replaces officer-in-charge Francisquiel Mancile, who was also appointed as assistant general manager for operations last July.

The appointment also comes after Marcos had earlier named domestic shipping owner Christopher Pastrana as the new general manager of PPA. Pastrana was, however, hounded by accusations of conflict of interest and eventually did not get to assume the position.

Santiago was previously general manager from 2016 until he stepped down on June 30, 2022 as the new administration took over.

Prior to PPA, Santiago was previously General Counsel of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and has extensive practice in matters concerning gaming laws and regulations as well as government biddings and procurement. Santiago was also a name partner of the law firm of Feria Tantoco Robeniol Santiago specializing in corporate and commercial law, particularly in the areas of banking and finance, securities regulation, telecommunications and new technologies, tax, immigration, and general business advisory.

Santiago graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities and obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the same university.
