Samsung Electronics Philippines emerged as the top importer through the Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for the first half of the year, contributing more than P1 billion to the coffers of the NAIA collection district.

Bureau of Customs-NAIA, district collector Carmelita M. Talusan led the virtual awarding of the port’s top 20 importers on August 4.

The second top importer was Globe Telecom and the third, Smart Communications, according to a BOC statement.

Samsung posted a mid-year revenue contribution to BOC-Port of NAIA of P1.22 billion while Globe Telecom registered a P838-million collection and Smart Communications, P501 million.

The BOC-Port of NAIA surpassed its January to June 2021 collection target by 25.68%, taking in P18.556 billion from the same period last year. This is despite the 47% decrease in flight arrivals this year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The Port of NAIA also exceeded its July revenue target by 3.43% or P111.60 million, collecting P3.36 billion against its P3.25-billion target, BOC said.

In addition to the awarding ceremonies, Talusan presided over the 2021 Midyear Stakeholder Forum where she presented district developments to ensure stakeholders are aware of the port’s accomplishments and policies.

Among topics discussed were the port’s seamless communication channels and initiatives simplifying processes and clearance time of transactions through digital systems and innovations. These initiatives include the QR Client Feedback Form, NAIA Ticketing System, QR Coding System, Unpaid Monitoring Dashboard, One-Stop Shop Dashboard, and the Active Hotlines of NAIA offices including warehouses whose use by stakeholders was encouraged.
