President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former Philippine Navy chief Robert A. Empedrad as the new administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).

Empedrad’s appointment paper was signed by the President on March 2 and released on March 11.

Empedrad, who left the Philippine Navy last February 2020 after reaching the mandatory retirement age, replaces MARINA officer-in-charge Narciso Vingson, Jr.

He will be the fourth official to take charge of the maritime authority since the current administration took over in 2016.

A graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Sinagtala Class of 1986, Empedrad commanded various posts in the Philippine Navy before becoming officer-in-command of the naval warfare service in 2017.
