Philippine Airlines (PAL) will begin direct flights between Cebu and Baguio City starting December 16, 2022, marking its return to the northern highland city that was its first destination more than 81 years ago.

The new route will allow hassle-free travel to the City of Pines from the Queen City of the South, and vice versa, in just two hours, the flag carrier said in a statement.

“This will be PAL’s comeback to the very first destination we served nearly 82 years ago, so we are happy to be flying back to where it all started,” PAL president and chief operating officer Stanley Ng said.

PAL first flew to Baguio from Manila as a newly incorporated airline on March 15, 1941.

From December 16, PAL’s Cebu-Baguio-Cebu flights will operate four times weekly, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with departures in the morning.

Known as the “Summer Capital of the Philippines” for its year-round cool climate and breathtaking location 1,400 meters above sea level, PAL said Baguio is a destination for tourist holidays. The city is also a business hub that hosts the Baguio City Economic Zone.

Baguio is the latest addition to the carrier’s growing network of domestic flights from Cebu.

The Cebu-Baguio direct flights will be operated with a De Havilland Dash 8 Series 400 Next Generation aircraft, a high-performance turboprop offering faster speed and jet-like comfort in a quieter cabin.
