P83.5M earmarked for PH airport, port projects

A TOTAL of P83.5 million worth of airport and port development projects are being lined up by the Philippine Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) for bidding.

The projects are an airport in Borongan, Eastern Samar, and seven ports in the provinces of Antique, Dinagat Islands, Mindoro Occidental, Romblon, and Ilocos Sur, a department bulletin said.

For the Borongan Airport development project, P14.62 million of the total budget is allotted for the concreting of a 931-meter-long and six-meter-wide access road to the Eastern Samar hub.

The lion’s share of the budget, or P23.61 million, will go to the Culasi port development project in Antique that entails construction of a wharf 30 meters long and 30 meters wide, and a terminal shed with comfort rooms.

Hamtic Port, also in Antique, will get P13.21 million for the concreting of a back-up area 49 meters long and 21 meters wide, construction of shore protection, an access road, and dredging works.

The Azagra feeder port of San Fernando, Romblon, will get P13.34 million for the construction of a 24-meter-long and eight-meter-wide reinforced concrete pier, and provision of five mooring bollards and eight rubber fenders.

The Alcantara port in Romblon is allotted P4.996 million for the rehabilitation of its causeway, which involves concrete paving of the l 32-meter-long and 6.5-meter-wide structure with an average depth of 3.5 meters, and provision of four stainless mooring cleats.

For the Pandan Port project in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur, the DOTC has budgeted P4.97 million to build a 62-meter-long seawall with an average depth of three meters; fabrication and driving of 155 units of concrete sheet piles l4 meters deep with concrete capping, and construction of a drainage system.

In Dinagat, the Brgy. Ruben E. Ecleo Sr. Wharf development project was allocated P4.62 million. It involves expansion of one causeway section to 12 meters long and four meters wide and another section to 58 meters long and 1.5 meters wide, and extension of another causeway a length of six meters and a width of 12 meters at the Dinagat Island wharf.

The Lubang Port project in Mindoro Occidental entails the construction of an access road 49 meters long and 12 meters wide and a line canal 60 meters long, as well as provision of a drainage system made up of a 60-meter reinforced concrete pipeline with catch basins, all with a budget of P4.133 million.

Issuance of bid documents began July 24 and ends Aug. 14, and the pre-bid conference will be on Aug.  1. Deadline for submission and opening of the bid documents will be on Aug. 14 for the Borongan Airport, Brgy. Ruben Ecleo Sr. Wharf, Hamtic Port and Culasi Port projects and Aug. 15 for the Pandan, Azagra, Alcantara and Lubang port projects.
