One kilogram of methamphetamine hydrochloride concealed in a shipment bound for Auckland, New Zealand has been seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Port of Clark in Pampanga.

The drug, locally known as shabu and with an estimated value of P6.127 million, was uncovered following information that an export shipment declared as “CCTV Camera and Video Recorder” contained illegal drugs.

The BOC-Port of Clark Enforcement and Security Service-Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force, coordinating with the Export Unit and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, placed the shipment on hold and had it physically examined.

The inspection yielded six packs of suspected shabu concealed inside four CCTV cameras. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s (PDEA) chemical laboratory analysis report confirmed that the packs contained shabu.

BOC-Clark district collector Alexandra Lumontad issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violation of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in relation to RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The seized illegal drugs were turned over to PDEA last August 27.

For the first half of 2021, illegal drugs topped BOC’s most seized goods in terms of value. Of the P10.169 billion total value of seized smuggled items for the January to June 2021 period, P1.869 billion were illegal drugs.
