President Rodrigo Duterte inaugurated on October 21 the P573.8-million, 7.42-kilometer Sariaya Bypass Road.

The toll-free, four-lane bypass road runs from Manila South Road to Quezon Eco-Tourism Road in Quezon Province.

It is expected to decongest Manila South Road/Daang Maharlika from Sariaya to Lucena City by as much as 40%.

Undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways, the project covered the construction of four two-lane bridges: the 40-meter Tumbaga Bridge, 80-meter Morong Bridge, 160-meter Gibanga Bridge, and 40-meter Isabang Bridge.

“We can now avoid traffic along Daang Maharlika in the town proper of Sariaya, and use a toll-free bypass road, complete with road shoulder, drainage structures, safety features, markings and signs,” Public Works acting secretary Roger Mercado said in a statement.

The new bypass road will benefit Sariaya town through better mobility, enabling better trade and encouraging businesses, he said.

“This will also provide convenience to motorists mostly going in and out of Metro Manila and Southern Tagalog or Bicol Region.”
