  • Metro Manila’s curfew will be lifted from November 4
  • The policy is subject to existing ordinances on curfew hours for persons below 18 years old, and COVID-19 protocols and minimum public health standards must still be observed and enforced
  • The unified curfew is being lifted to give mall goers and mall employees time to get home as malls extend their operating hours in time for the Christmas season

The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has approved the lifting of the unified curfew in Metro Manila starting November 4.

The lifting of the curfew is, however, still subject to existing ordinances on curfew hours for persons below 18 years old, and the region should still continue to observe and enforce COVID-19 protocols and minimum public health standards, according to MMC Resolution No. 21-25 signed and adopted on November 2.

The resolution said the lifting of the unified curfew is to complement the adjustment in mall operating hours and to provide mall goers and mall employees ample time to get home.

Mall operators in the metropolis earlier agreed to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos’ request to adjust their operating hours in time for the holiday season. Mall operators, however, had expressed concern that their workers may have difficulty returning home if operating hours were extended with the curfew remaining in place and with the limited capacity in public transport.

MMDA has been implementing curfew since community quarantines were first imposed in March last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The curfew hours have since been modified several times, with the latest curfew observed from 12 midnight to 4 a.m. since October 13.

The MMC, comprised of the 17 local government units of Metro Manila, is the governing and policymaking body of the MMDA.
