A local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. has become the first logistics company in the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Bonded Logistics Zone to be licensed for assembly processing operations.

Nippon Express on November 30 said the license of its subsidiary Nippon Express Global Logistics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. took effect on October 25.

China only permits assembly processing in Hong Kong, Macau, and some special bonded areas. Customers holding cargo inventory for end users in Shanghai and nearby areas have long sought to carry out assembly processing in a closer location.

As the first logistics company to obtain a license for assembly processing work in the zone, Nippon Express Global Logistics will be able to arrange products in presentation boxes, attach parts to equipment and provide various other services and added value in accordance with customer requests. This will reduce transport costs to end users around Shanghai and significantly cut lead times.

Nippon Express said it will continue to utilize its global network to enhance its international transport services and to expand its logistics functions in China to help in business development.

Meanwhile, the Nippon Express Group will become the “NX Group” and introduce new group brand symbols on January 4, 2022.

The Japanese global logistics services company on November 16 announced it plans to switch to a holding company structure in January 2022 to strengthen the group’s management base and realize its long-term vision of becoming “a logistics company with a strong presence in the global market.”

The introduction of a unified group brand identity is intended to enhance Nippon Express’s brand strength, enable group companies to respond to technological innovations and rapid social environmental changes while providing higher-quality services, and marshal all group employees to act in concert when providing customer and industry support, the company expounded.
