New rate hikes for East Asia trades loom in August

Hapag-Lloyd announced a new round of increases for its East Asia services to take effect in the middle of next month.

Effective August 15, the German ocean carrier will raise rates for all cargoes and container types from East Asia to the Caribbean, East Coast Central America, and Panama by US$980 per 20-foot container and $1,400 per 40-foot container.

On the same day, a general rate increase (GRI) of $500 per 20-foot equivalent unit or TEU will be levied on all cargoes and container types from East Asia to Mexico, the West Coast of Central America, and the West Coast of South America.

A GRI will also be put in effect on the East Asia/Indian Sub-continent/Middle East-East Coast of South America trade lane. Rates will be boosted by $750 per TEU, to be implemented also on August 15.
