New 13,208-TEU box ship to reinforce OOCL’s Asia-Europe fleet

OOCL Korea Vessel and GroupOrient Overseas Container Line is strengthening its fleet on the Asia-Europe trade lane with the planned deployment of its newest acquisition, a 13,208-TEU container ship.

At naming ceremonies for the newbuild OOCL Korea held recently on Geoje Island in South Korea, Andy Tung, chief executive officer of the group, stressed the importance of mega ships for staying competitive in the business.

“The productivity gains and greater economies of scale that can be achieved with the next generation of mega vessels are clear, and by continually enhancing our fleet we can remain competitive and provide quality services to customers,” he added.

The OOCL Korea measures 350 meters long and 48.2 meters wide with a depth of 29.8 meters. It will serve the Asia-Europe trade on the Loop 6 service with a 77-day round-trip schedule.

Her port rotation is Kaohsiung, Xiamen, Shekou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Colombo, Suez Canal, Southampton, Antwerp, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Suez Canal, Jebel Ali, Singapore, Shekou, and Kaohsiung.
