  • The list will be finalized by the end of the first quarter

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is evaluating an initial list of 206 flagship projects under the Marcos administration.

In a media forum on Feb 4, NEDA Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon said the socioeconomic planning body will finalize the list by end of the first quarter.

She said NEDA is looking at the viability of the projects and that the list could still be trimmed.

A longer list of up to 3,000 projects, for consideration until the end of the Marcos term in 2028, is also being studied.

Edillon said the government projects will be funded through various schemes such as public private partnership (PPP), grants and government allocation.

In implementing PPP projects, Edillon said the administration will focus on solicited PPPs, or those well-crafted and vetted projects, which could help the government achieve its targets of economic growth, increased employment and poverty reduction.

The announcement follows the initial release of seven high-impact projects approved by the NEDA Board last week.

NEDA Board oks big-ticket projects, including 4 for transport

The projects include the establishment of a 300-bed capacity University of the Philippines (UP)-Philippine General Hospital Cancer Center-PPP project; increasing the cost of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 rehabilitation project; utilization of the Japan International Cooperation Agency loan balance for the new Communications, Navigation, Surveillance-Air Traffic Management system; and the construction of new Dumaguete Airport Development Project.

Other projects approved or confirmed by the NEDA Board include the Department of Agriculture’s Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project, and the Department of Public Works and Highways’ P20-billion first phase of the Integrated Flood Resilience and adaptation project in three major river basins in the country.
