Container shipping liner Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) will introduce in April and May two new services between Asia and the United States to help ease industry-wide congestion and schedule reliability issues.

To be launched in April is a new service between southeast Asia and the US West Coast that is seen to improve reliability in the trans-Pacific network “at a time when the entire market remains under considerable systemic pressure,” said MSC in a release.

The Sentosa service is a dedicated line that will link southeast Asia with the Pacific South West market and catalyze trade between countries such as Thailand and Vietnam and the US West Coast.

The service is expected to significantly improve transit time for customers shipping goods between southeast Asia and California.

It is expected to start in early April with the MSC Ornella and its rotation will be as follows: Singapore – Tanjung Pelepas – Laem Chabang – Vung Tau – Long Beach – Shanghai – Ningbo – Xiamen – Singapore.

Meanwhile, the company will deploy starting May a new weekly container shipping service, the Palmetto, from Asia to the US East Coast.

The new service will be calling Vietnam and Yantian with direct connections to the US South Atlantic ports of Savannah and Charleston, as well as New York. The rotation will be operated through the Panama Canal on the way to the US.

The carrier expects to launch the Palmetto service in May, subject to compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Both trans-Pacific services will improve the distribution of cargo flows in MSC’s existing network and enhance schedule reliability for its customers, said the release.
