Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) general manager Rodolfo J. Garcia passed away on the evening of February 10, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said. He was 77.

DOTr last January 28 said Garcia tested positive for COVID-19; he was confined in an intensive care unit of a hospital.

A day before, MRT-3 confirmed 42 workers tested positive for COVID-19, one of whom died.
“The entire DOTr family wishes to condole with the bereaved family of Gen. Garcia. Our thoughts and prayers are with you,” DOTr said in a statement.

“We acknowledge and highly appreciate Gen. Garcia for sharing his expertise, knowledge and leadership. We recognize his untiring effort to improve the state of the MRT-3,” it added.

Garcia, a retired police general, was appointed head of MRT-3 in 2017. He previously served as MRT director for operations.
