Manila North Harbour Port, Inc.’s (MNHPI) new online payment system (OPS) is going live in October.

The Web application allows customers of the Manila domestic terminal to process payments for cargo-related charges 24/7.

The system was previously scheduled to go live in August then moved to September. Full implementation will now start on October 1 to give clients still completing their bank requirements more time to meet system needs, operator MNHPI, also known as North Port, told PortCalls in an email.

MNHPI said a “soft live” implementation is “currently running smoothly and successfully being participated in by clients who have already complied with the bank requirements.”

The OPS is a 24/7 self-service facility that allows clients to have control over their transactions and payments. MNHPI said doing away with physical cash movements also provides clients added security and safety of their funds, besides saving them transportation costs to and from the terminal.

The OPS is in compliance with the government’s adoption of digital payment system and COVID-19 protocols, particularly on physical distancing.

MHNPI said there is no fee for using the system.

Port users with payment transactions for cargo-handling charges in Manila North Harbor may register and create their accounts with the OPS.

Available modes of payment include e-payment (online banking) and electronic advance deposit receipts.

For now, available affiliate banks for e-payment are Union Bank of the Philippines and BDO.

As approved by the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the system can generate electronic official receipts, MNHPI said. Moreover, clients may apply expanded withholding tax and value-added tax exemption in their online payment transaction.

Manila North Harbor is the country’s premier domestic port, catering to the majority of domestic cargo trade in Manila, and accommodating all types of inter-island vessels. It has an annual container capacity of 1.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units and also accommodates passengers. – Roumina Pablo
