MCT_www.cdodev.comContainer throughput at the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental fell 0.52% in the first four months of the year to 68,315 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) from 68,674 TEUs year-on-year.

Of the total, foreign cargo accounted for 44,842 TEUs, an increase of 4.1% from 43,078 TEUs registered in the first four months of 2013, data from Phividec Industrial Authority, the port’s regulator, showed.

For the same period in review, domestic cargo declined 9.27% to 23,223 TEUs from 25,596 TEUs.

For January and February, MCT handled 250 TEUs of foreign transshipments. There were no such transactions for March and April.

Laden containers with foreign cargo totaled 31,060.75 TEUs, while empty foreign containers reached 13,781 TEUs.

Domestic empty containers totaled 3,363 TEUs, lower than the 3,792 TEUs recorded for January to April 2013.

For the entire 2013, MCT processed 217,843 TEUs, a record high since 2006 and representing 80.68% of the terminal’s annual capacity of 270,000 TEUs.

Shipping traffic for the period was three vessels short of the 146 ship calls recorded in 2012. In 2013, MCT handled 458 vessels, fewer than the 477 ships in 2012 and 556 vessels in 2011. – Roumina Pablo
