MetroPac Movers, Inc., the logistics arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), broke ground for the South Mega Distribution Center (South Mega DC), its distribution facility in General Trias, Cavite that will serve the company’s clients in the south.

South Mega DC is a major part of MetroPac Movers’ logistics infrastructure plan to facilitate the movement of goods and inventories of the company’s largest clients.

The facility will be constructed over a 202,000-square-meter property acquired by MetroPac Movers along the stretch of Arnaldo Highway, between Barangays Santiago and Pasong Kawayan in General Trias. Once completed by the last quarter of 2021, it is expected to produce up to 5,000 jobs.

MetroPac Movers last February partnered with Aboitiz Construction, Inc. and DCCD Engineering Corporation for the pre-construction and project management needs of the industrial hub. Aboitiz Construction will prepare the master plan and basic design, while DCCD Engineering will act as project manager.

“We welcome these partnerships as we pursue infrastructure projects in the logistics sector. We are bringing these good relationships to help address our country’s logistics needs and eventually reduce the cost of transporting goods,” MetroPac Movers chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said in a statement.

MetroPac Movers has also purchased parcels of land with a total combined area of 277,857 square meters in San Rafael, Bulacan for its planned North Mega DC.

The two hubs, South Mega DC and North Mega DC, are expected to employ up to 10,000 people once operational.

MetroPac Movers currently operates over 200,000 square meters of total warehouse space in strategic locations across Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao for the warehousing, distribution and cross-docking requirements of the company’s local and international customers. It also engages in freight forwarding, parcel services and transporting, having purchased over 500 trucks of various sizes and configurations.
