A.P. Moller-Maersk has announced the appointment of three high-ranking officials to its executive board to strengthen the management of the company. The board will now consist of six members.

In a mailed release, the global transport and logistics giant said the move aims to “accelerate the vision of becoming the global integrator of container logistics for the benefits of customers and global trade.”

The company said it is also in line with the group strategy announced in September 2016 to focus the future business on container shipping, ports, and logistics, and further accelerate the development of end-to-end transportation and logistics solutions.

Thus the board on November 28 announced the appointment of the chief operating officer (COO), chief commercial officer (CCO) as well as the chief executive officer (CEO) of APM Terminals to the executive board.

Effective December 1, 2017, Vincent Clerc, executive vice president (EVP) and CCO; Morten Engelstoft, EVP and CEO APM Terminals; and Soren Toft, EVP and COO will join the executive board of Maersk, said the statement.

CEO of A.P. Moller-Maersk Soren Skou said: “We have made good progress on the separation of the oil and oil related businesses as well as the integration of container shipping, ports and logistics. The expansion of the Executive Board will further accelerate our journey towards delivering seamless end to end experiences to our customers.”

He added: “Vincent, Morten and Soren have all demonstrated strong leadership and customer focus as well as delivered solid results over many years. They are recognized, visionary and global leaders in the container shipping, ports and logistics industry. I look forward to having them take on additional executive responsibility and to join me and the rest of the Executive Board on the journey towards the future Maersk.”

Jim Hagemann Snabe, Maersk chairman of the Board of Directors, declared:  “I am very pleased to see how Soren Skou and the Executive Board have executed on our vision to become a focused transport and logistics company as outlined in the strategy. Today’s Board of Directors’ decision to expand the Executive Board will further strengthen the pace of the strategy implementation.”

With the expansion, the executive board now consists of group CEO Skou; Claus V. Hemmingsen, vice CEO Moller-Maersk and CEO of the energy division; Jakob Stausholm, EVP Moller-Maersk and chief finance, strategy, and transformation officer; Clerc, EVP Moller-Maersk and CCO, chairman Damco; Engelstoft, EVP Moller-Maersk and CEO for APM Terminals, chairman Svitzer; and Toft, EVP Moller-Maersk and COO, chairman Maersk Container Industry.

Toft is also overseeing the acquisition and integration of Hamburg Sud, with an expected deal closing in the fourth quarter of 2017, pending which he will be board member of the Supervisory Board in Hamburg Sud.
