Operations of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension are expected to start in September 2024, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said.

Bautista, during an inspection of two of the rail lines’ stations on November 14, made arrangements with operator Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) and their contractors to ensure the rail extension project will roll off as scheduled, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said in a statement.

Construction of the stations of LRT-1 Cavite Extension Stations is underway. At present, Dr. A. Santos, Ninoy Aquino, and Redemptorist Stations in Parañaque City are 48.03%, 34.06%, 30.17% done, respectively.

On the other hand, Asia World and MIA Stations in Pasay City have 37.12% and 35.47% progress rates, respectively.

The 11.7-kilometer, eight-station P64.915-billion LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project will connect Baclaran in Parañaque City to Bacoor, Cavite. The project is a joint venture of DOTr, Light Rail Transit Authority, and LRMC.

Once fully operational, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project will cut travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor to just 25 minutes, from 1 hour and 10 minutes at present. The extension will also increase the rail line’s capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.

Construction was expected to begin in 2014 but was delayed by right-of-way issues. These issues were settled in 2016, paving the way for ground-breaking of the project in 2017.
