  • Limited flight operations resumed following partial restoration of the air traffic management system of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines as of 4pm January 1
  • A total of 282 flights were either delayed, cancelled or diverted to other regional airports affecting around 56,000 passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport as of 4pm of Jan 1

Limited flight operations have resumed following partial restoration, as of 4pm of January 1, of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines air traffic management system.

A glitch in the CAAP system caused widespread flight suspension earlier in the day, causing numerous delays, cancellations and diversions affecting several flights to and from NAIA, Cebu and Clark airports.

In a statement, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said that as of 4pm, a total of 282 flights were either delayed, cancelled or diverted to regional airports affecting around 56,000 passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

A Cathay Pacific flight (CX 930) took off at 5:33pm from NAIA Terminal 3 to Hong Kong, the first to do so after partial restoration of the system.

MIAA said it is working with the Airline Operators Council on a recovery schedule for cancelled flights.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista in a statement apologized for the inconvenience brought about by the glitch, noting that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) together with CAAP, MIAA and other airport stakeholders are working to restore full operations at the Air Traffic Management Center in NAIA, and safely bring home all affected passengers.

He said DOTr has directed airline partners to provide for free food, refreshments, transportation, lodging and accommodation for all affected passengers.

CAAP and MIAA distributed Malasakit Kits and food packs to stranded passengers inside terminals.

Bautista said DOTr also instructed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board  to deploy shuttle buses to take affected NAIA passengers to Clark International Airport.

Mactan-Cebu International Airport in a statement said it is closely coordinating with aviation authorities and airlines for updates to ensure smooth operations.

The following flights at MCIA are affected as of 4:53pm, Jan 1:
