Licensed customs brokers will soon be exempt from an entrance exam when applying for entry and technical level positions at the Bureau of Customs (BOC), according to Acting Customs commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz.

Ruiz made this announcement at the 30th National Convention of the Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. (CCBI) on November 24, noting that licensed customs brokers have already passed their board exam.

The BOC chief said he “will make this happen in the coming months.”

Licensed customs broker applicants, however, must still undergo medical test, neuropsychiatric test, and panel interview, Ruiz said.

CCBI president Adones Carmona told PortCalls he was grateful to Ruiz, and for acknowledging “the competency of our professionals”.

In the Philippines, aspiring customs brokers take a four-year customs administration course and must pass a licensure exam before they can practice their profession.
