Kerry Logistics plans to build a new logistics center in Zhengzhou in Henan Province in the second quarter of 2012 to expand its presence in Central China. The facility is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2013.

The logistics center will be built on 70,000 square meters of land acquired by Kerry Logistics at the Singapore International Logistics Industrial Park in Zhengzhou.

The center will be adjacent to the national highway in the east and to the Longhai Railway in the north and is 20 kilometers to the southeast of the city center.

The company will be targeting the electronics and technology, automobile, industrial and material science sectors. The facility will meet demand from customers for new warehousing space and a broad range of logistics services, it said.

“China’s coastal provinces have refocused to attract manufacturers of higher value-added products and there has been a migration of production to the central and western regions due to lower land and labour costs, we see the potential to transform Zhengzhou into one of China’s manufacturing and processing hubs. The new logistics centre will strengthen our comprehensive logistics network in the central and western regions of China,” said Edwardo Erni, managing director, Mainland China, Kerry Logistics.

Zhengzhou is located at the center of China and is a traffic and communication hub for road and rail as well as air transport.
