Jonathan Tan is new SBMA chair

Jonathan Tan is the new chairman and administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. signed Tan’s appointment on April 28; he took his oath of office on May 3.

He will serve for a term of six years.

The former mayor of Pandan, Antique, Tan replaced former chairman and administrator Rolen Paulino, who filed his courtesy resignation to Marcos last month. Paulino stepped down from office on April 15. Paulino said he resigned to give Marcos a free hand in choosing “who he deems best to steer the SBMA/Subic Bay Freeport Zone to greater heights in terms of management and new business opportunities.”

Tan served as mayor of Pandan from 2010 to 2019. He was one of the Philippines’ Most Outstanding Mayors in 2012, with city mayors Alfredo Lim of Manila, Benjie Lim of Dagupan, Meynardo Sabili of Lipa, Edgardo Pamintuan of Angeles, Jennifer Austria-Barzaga of Dasmariñas, and Len Alonte-Naguiat of Biñan. He was the only municipal mayor who bagged the award for that year.

Tan also served as president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines–Antique and elected as PRO of LMP-National from 2013 to 2016. In addition, he was was the secretary of the Northwest Panay Peninsula Biodiversity and Conservation Council.
