Iris Lines Inc. is launching two domestic express services this month and in July.

The Cebu Express Service (CXS) will ply the Manila-Cebu route with a frequency of once in seven days starting June 26. The maiden voyage will sail out from North Port, the domestic terminal in Manila North Harbor.

The Davao Express Service (DXS), meanwhile, will be a Manila-General Santos-Davao-Cagayan de Oro-Manila loop service, operating once every 14 days. The maiden voyage will depart from North Port on July 1.

Each service offers a cargo capacity of 10,000 tons, 1,100 twenty-foot equivalent units of containers, 220 reefer slots, and two 45-ton capacity cranes.

“The new increased service frequency will give local businesses greater market access between Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao,” Iris Lines said in an advisory.

The carrier earlier said it is resuming domestic operations following the suspension of its international services.

The company announced on May 19 a temporary halt to its international services, saying it suffered a setback from volatility of the shipping industry, with unsustainable freight rates making it difficult to compete with foreign carriers.

Iris Lines said its return to domestic shipping “will come with improved services to ensure a more pleasant customer experience.”

“We are excited to serve the domestic shipping market once again and continue our thrust to contribute to the growth of the Philippine blue economy,” the shipping line added.

Iris Lines, formerly Iris Logistics Inc., is the shipping arm of Royal Cargo Group, which engages in domestic and international maritime and transport services.

The company said its main goal is to promote the participation of Philippine-owned carriers in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations trade lane and to increase the competitiveness of Philippine exporters and importers.
