Int’l air forwarders in PH lift 2.5% less volume in 2016

Cargo volume handled by international air freight forwarders in the Philippines declined 2.5% last year to 292.556 million kilograms from 299.91 million kg in 2015, data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) showed.

Nippon Express Philippines, Inc. remained the top international air freight forwarder in volume handled.

Consolidations, which accounted for 43% of the total, dropped 1.83% to 127.077 million kg last year from 129.451 million kg recorded in 2015.

Breakbulking, which contributed 35% to the total, likewise fell 5.8% to 103.338 million kg from 109.694 million kg previously.

Direct shipments, on the other hand, grew 2.3% to 62.141 million kg from 60.765 million kg.

Nippon tops list

Nippon Express again bested other international air freight forwarders, keeping the spot for eight straight years. Nippon Express airlifted 50.077 million kg in 2016, the volume accounting for a 17.12% market share and 12% higher than the 44.571 million kg the company handled in 2015.

Ranking one place higher in 2016 was Trans-global Consolidators, Inc., with 17.297 million kg lifted. It was followed by Schenker Philippines, Inc., which jumped two spots to third with 17.169 million kg.

Dropping from second to fourth was DHL Global Forwarding (Phils.), Inc. with 15.208 million kg, followed by Yusen Logistics Phils., Inc., which yielded one spot and fell to fifth with 13.812 million kg.

Maintaining their places at sixth, seventh, and eighth were Kintetsu World Express Phil., Inc. with 13.191 million kg, Panalpina World Transport (Phils.), Inc. with 9.411 million, and Kuehne & Nagel, Inc. with 9.315 million kg.

Improving two ranks to ninth was PS Delbros Transport, Inc. with 7.383 million kg, followed by Expeditors Philippines, Inc. which jumped three places with 7.155 million kg.

Ranked from 11th to 20th on CAB’s list were Airspeed International Phils., Inc. (6.628 million kg); U-Freight Philippines, Inc. (6.622 million kg); UPS SCS (Phils.), Inc. (6.089 million kg); CEVA Logistics Phil., Inc. (5.8 million kg); Federal Express Pacific, Inc. (5.448 million kg); DHL Express (Phils.), Corp. (5.114 million kg); World Alliance Freight (3.868 million kg); Dimerco Express Philippines (3.652 million kg); AAI Worldwide Logistics, Inc. (3.46 million kg); and NNR Global Logistics (Phils.), Inc. (3.409 million kg).

Completing the top 30 list were Agility International Logistics, Inc. (2.768 million kg); CFS International Movers Corp. (2.621 million kg); Sky Freight Forwarders, Inc. (2.546 million kg); Manila International Freight Forwarders (2.493 million kg); DSV Air & Sea, Inc. (2.231 million kg); Aspac International Airfreight, Inc. (2.082 million kg); Polaris Express Logistics Corp. (1.878 million kg); Hankyu Hanshin Express Phils., Inc. (1.831 million kg); Royal Cargo Combined Logistics (1.760 million kg); and Sincerity Int’l. Cargo Services Corp. (1.686 million kg). – Roumina Pablo
