LOGISTICS industry newcomer Sparta Logistics sees opportunities in the Philippines often overlooked by major logistics players.

At the sidelines of the company’s recent office inauguration at the Alpha Grandview Condominium in Malate, Manila, chief executive officer Anders Johansen cited the Philippines’ strong ocean freight market and special projects industry as its strong points.

“We see such industries growing rapidly in the future,” Johansen told PortCalls. “We just have to make sure we have the right people to help the company achieve its targets here.”

Johansen noted the Philippines is part of the company’s strategy for future growth in Southeast Asia. “There is no better timing to expand in the Philippines than now.”

The company is currently “strengthening other aspects of our logistics business such as warehousing and customs clearance,” Johansen said.

Sparta Logistics is also initiating meetings with potential clients to better understand their requirements in the interest of providing more value-added services. Apart from competitive rates and a wide international network, it is in extra services that the company hopes to distinguish itself, Johansen said.

One of these services is the “Forwarding Online” solution, which allows clients to simply go online for their requirements. The system reduces personal interaction, resulting in faster transactions and reduced costs.

In the next two weeks, Sparta Logistics, through its Singapore mother company, will test the new product. The process will last two months before the solution is fully rolled out in other areas of operations, including the Philippines and Indonesia.

Initially, the project will cover less than container load services but will slowly be expanded to full container load and airfreight services.
