FedEx Corp. announced it will hike its rates for ground shipping and home delivery services by a net average of 4.9 percent, effective January 7, 2013.

The ground and home delivery rates will have a full average increase of 5.9 percent, to be partially offset by a fuel surcharge reduction of one percentage point.

The Tennessee-based company said in an official release that its postal rates will likewise change.

FedEx announced on September 18 that it will boost the shipping rates for its express service by 3.9 percent for U.S. domestic, U.S. export, and U.S. import services, also effective January 7, 2013.  FedEx Freight implemented a 6.9 percent general rate increase on July 9, 2012.

Compatriot rival United Parcel Service in November released its new rates for 2013, which include an average net increase of 4.5 percent on all air and U.S.-origin international services, and 4.9 percent on ground services. The new pricing takes effect from December 31, 2012.

On the other hand, Germany’s DHL Express in September said it will implement a global price increase for 2013 of 5 percent on average. The price hike will take effect from January 1, 2013.
