Export zone body tests automated export system

THE Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is testing its automated export declaration system (AEDS) using three locators this week.

Pilot companies Astec/Emerson Power, First Sumiden and Sanyo earlier submitted their list of importables and remitted deposits for electronic payment of the PEZA export shipment transfer fee.

InterCommerce Network Services, which developed the system, was the first value-added service provider to comply with PEZA requiremetns and new procedures.

The test is expected to last until end of July. The new AEDS will be rolled out to other PEZA locators right after pilot implementation.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is expected to impose mandatory AEDS in all customs territories, PEZA and freeport zones in September.

The PEZA export system is similar to the electronic import permit system that has been in place since 2009 wherein all import entries filed by locators will be coursed through and approved by PEZA before being forwarded to the BOC for its own use.
