The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will continue to promote green transport projects under the new administration, Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said in a statement.

During Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ launch of the first mall-based free charging stations for electric vehicles on July 14, Bautista said the DOTr will ensure its policies and projects promote environment preservation and comply with international environment standards toward alleviating the impact of transportation on the environment.

Bautista likewise underscored former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s programs, which improved transportation efficiency and reduced carbon emissions through the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

“The Department of Transportation launched programs geared at improving transportation efficiency and reducing emissions and pollutants from the public transportation sector,” he explained.

According to him, the establishment of the national development plan for the electric vehicle industry is a big push for the promotion of electric vehicles in the country.

He said the DOTr will support the advancement of Republic Act 11697 or the Development of Electric Vehicle Industry in the Philippines to provide sustainable transport alternatives to Filipinos.

The Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ charging stations e-mobility initiative is the country’s first mall-based charging stations for electric bikes, scooters, vehicles, and public utility vehicles located at Uptown Bonifacio in BGC, Taguig City.

The free charging of electric automobiles is in partnership with DOTr, Department of Energy, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
