DOTr aims to finish 185 airport, seaport projects before end of Duterte term

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and its attached agencies have completed 233 airport projects and 484 seaport projects from 2016 to November 2021, according to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.

Before the end of the current administration’s term, DOTr and its attached agencies Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) are set to complete an additional 84 airport and aviation-related projects and 101 seaport projects.

Of the 84 airport projects, slated for completion this month include the projects at Biliran Airport; Hilongos Airport, Leyte; Cuyo Airport, Palawan; Puerto Princesa International Airport, Palawan; and Lingayen Airport, Pangasinan, Tugade said in a presentation on November 9.

Eyed for completion in December 2021 include the construction of control tower at Tacloban Airport; rehabilitation of passenger terminal building (PTB) of Busuanga Airport; expansion works at Tuguegarao Airport; and construction of a control tower building at San Vicente Airport in Palawan.

For next year, airport projects for completion include Cotabato Airport, Maasin Airport, Vigan Airport, and Catbalogan Airport.

On seaport projects, Tugade said set for inauguration are 11 projects in Mindoro, including Calapan port’s new PTB, which will be able to accommodate 3,500 passengers. Also set for completion is Zamboanga Port’s PTB, which will be able to accommodate 4,000 passengers.

DOTr, in a separate statement, said these development projects are “vital in enhancing inter-island connectivity and mobility, and in strengthening the economic growth of our provinces and municipalities.”
