DOTr eyes P217M to modernize several regional ports

Contractors are invited by the Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) to bid for the development of eight ports across the Philippines with a total project cost of some P217.273 million to be shouldered by the agency.

The transport department, using its own funds under the General Appropriations Act, will assume the development cost for the ports of Victoria; the Quezon Port Cluster Development Project (Laguimanoc and Pitogo); Pangasinan Port Cluster Development Project; Padre Burgos; Dinahican; Castilla; Catanduanes (Codon and Viga); and Gumaca, according to separate bid bulletins issued by transport assistant secretary Dante Lantin, who is also the bids and awards committee chairman.

The development of Victoria Port, which costs P8.837 million, entails the construction of an access road and rock causeway.

The ports of Laguimanoc and Pitogo, covered by the P33.411 million Quezon Port Cluster Development Project, entails for the former, the construction of a causeway with pier approach, and for the latter, the building of a reinforced concrete pier and causeway extension.

The Pangasinan Port Cluster Development Project, meanwhile, was allotted P28.954 million to construct a rock causeway with stair landing for the Capandanan River Landing, and a river landing for the Pangapisan River.

In addition, a budget of P5.817 million is set aside for the Padre Burgos Port Development Project, which will see shoreline protection works.

With the biggest budgets are Dinahican and Castilla, which are allotted P45.16 million and P48.46 million, respectively. The Dinahican port project features the construction of a reinforced concrete pier, while the Castilla port development entails the erection of a backup area and a terminal shed with comfort rooms and office.

The ports of Codon and Viga, meanwhile, are covered by the P29.094 million Catanduanes Port Cluster Project. Under this, the development of Codon port will be continued while a wharf will be constructed for Viga port.

Lastly, the P17.544 million Gumaca Port development project entails the construction of a pier approach and a reinforced concrete pier.

Bidding for the projects is restricted to Filipino contractors who should have completed a contract similar to these projects. Bidding will be done through open competitive procedures under the Government Procurement Reform Act.

DOTr said pre-bid conference for all projects will be held on June 14, while opening of bids will be on June 24.

The public may also view the bidding online through livestreaming on DOTr’s Facebook page. The livestreaming of bidding activities is part of the department’s drive to promote transparency and good governance. The first bidding activity shown livestream was also for maritime projects.
