  • The carrier aims to convert its 100% paper-based procurement flows to digital to increase efficiency and create cost-effective workflows

Domestic shipping company Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corp. (PSACC) announced it is digitizing its internal processes by implementing fleet management software on board 19 vessels as part of its growth strategy.

The carrier in a release said that it will digitalize and streamline its internal processes and increase transparency across all departments by utilizing Sertica fleet management software to effect its digital transformation.

Noting that the carrier’s procurement flows are still 100% paper-based, PSACC CEO Jordan Go said going digital will “eliminate manual processes to create more efficient and cost-effective workflows. In Sertica we can digitalize the entire process from when the vessel sends a requisition to the spare part is received on board.”

“The digital transformation is expected to increase our productivity. The transparency across departments will make it easier for us to manage risks, ensure contract compliance, and achieve greater inventory control,” he added.

PSACC said the software will provide the company with an overview of expenses across its suppliers, allowing it to easily track vendors and use supplier scorecards—all from one central system. This will allow the shipping liner to leverage volume to reduce costs and to easily analyze how to further cut costs.

Digitalizing will also help “to achieve the synergy of linking procurement, safety and maintenance in the same system,” it added.

And by digitalizing maintenance, PSACC will have a complete overview of all maintenance activities across the fleet, resulting in improved performance of the machinery through timely maintenance and reduced downtime.

One of the largest domestic shipping companies in the Philippines in terms of number of vessels and gross tonnage, PSACC provides inter-island cargo services throughout the major ports and cities in the Philippines.
