CMA CGM and Delmas Shipping announced the launch of a new direct service on the Asia-Africa route from July 24.

The weekly New Africa Express (AFEX) service will serve the South Asian and West African trades and replace the existing Maersk Line-operated FEW3 service.

No additional capacity will be injected into the market, said CMA CGM, France’s largest container shipping group, in a press release.

The service, operated under a vessel shared agreement between CMA CGM and Maersk Line, will deploy 10 vessels—two from CMA CGM and eight from Maersk, ranging in capacity from 4,000 to 4,500 20-foot equivalent units.

The port rotation will be Yantian, Nansha, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang (West Port Terminal), Capetown, Pointe Noire (Congo Terminal), Tema (MPS), Capetown, and back to Yantian.

“The key aim of this product will be to develop a new direct link from Asia to Ghana, being the second largest market in West Africa,” the company said.
