DHL Supply Chain opened on July 16 its new MegaHub Hong Kong facility that consolidates the company’s Hong Kong operations and continues the company’s expansion of its regional infrastructure.

With a total investment of HK$630 million (US$81 million), the nearly 900,000 square feet of warehouse space is located at Interlink in Tsing Yi.

To date, the division has invested a total of US$275 million in facilities in their North Asian sub-region over the past three years, and projects to spend another $368 million from now to 2015.

Recent investments in the region include new warehouse facilities in China targeting the consumer sector, a multi-customer site in South Korea, and an expansion of their retail footprint in Japan.

“Asia continues to be one of the most active and dynamic regions in the world economy, with its rapid growth demanding an ever-developing network to keep pace with its needs,” said Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL.

The environment-friendly facility offers direct access to Hong Kong’s transport network, including proximity to Hong Kong international airport, the city’s central business district, container terminals, and mainland China.

The site has both ramp access floors, for large inbound and outbound volumes, and cargo lift floors, with additional features such as temperature control and secure cages.

The building has a two-tier security system to protect goods and extensive safety features to minimize fire risk.
