DHL Express has upgraded its dedicated aircraft for Philippine operations, increasing capacity by 31%.

Operated by Air Hong Kong, the upgraded aircraft–A330-300 from the previous A300–will bump up capacity from 42 tons to 55 tons with 12 weekly flights serving Hong Kong-Manila-Cebu-Manila-Hong Kong.

DHL Express said the new aircraft is operating at an earlier schedule. Inbound flights to Manila now arrive earlier by 15 hours. Arrivals in Cebu have also been brought forward nine hours, leading to shipments arriving in the morning instead of the evening. This allows same-day delivery of shipments instead of the next day.

“We continue to invest in our business in the Philippines and we are proud to bring these improvements to the country,” DHL Express Philippines country manager Nigel Lockett said in a statement. “Our new and larger aircraft is a firm commitment to serving our customers, and ensure that we are prepared to support their growth at a global scale and respond to the needs and demands of the market,” he added.

The aircraft is part of 15-year-agreement that DHL signed with AHK Air Hong Kong Limited and Cathay Pacific to enable overnight air delivery services and support express services for the Asia-Pacific region till 2033.

“We consistently upgrade and enhance our air and ground infrastructure to ensure our customers can get faster international deliveries,” DHL Express Philippines senior director for operations Promod George said. “Our larger aircraft and earlier schedule will significantly improve our ability to support our customers with increased capacity and better transit time,” he added.

“This greatly benefits international shippers in the Philippines and will support our fast-growing market,” DHL Express Philippines head of commercial Eric Queppet said.

DHL Express recently added 18 new electric vehicles to its ground fleet in the country, as part of efforts to further reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
