  • Starting August, consignees of balikbayan boxes abandoned by CMG International Movers and Cargo Services will receive their undelivered packages
  • The Bureau of Customs has inspected seven containers with 1,800-2,000 balikbayan boxes from the Middle East abandoned by CMG
  • Door-to-Door Consolidators Association of the Philippines will spearhead delivery to ultimate consignees
  • Boxes for Luzon will be delivered in August and those destined for the Visayas and Mindanao, until mid-September

The delivery of balikbayan boxes sent through CMG International Movers and Cargo Services, which the service provider later abandoned, will start soon, according to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

Acting Customs Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz inspected on July 25 the undelivered boxes at the Atlas Express Padala Inc. hub in Gerona, Tarlac to facilitate delivery to the intended recipients.

Ruiz and his team inspected seven containers with 1,800-2,000 balikbayan boxes sent by Middle East-based overseas Filipino workers, BOC said in a statement. The containers arrived at Manila International Container Port between August 2021 and February this year.

BOC said the inspection was carried out to clear the way for the release and delivery of the balikbayan boxes to their ultimate consignees. Delivery will be spearheaded by the Door-to-Door Consolidators Association of the Philippines (DDCAP).

Ruiz and DDCAP president Joel Longares agreed to set target dates for the delivery: boxes for Luzon will be delivered in August and those for Visayas and Mindanao, mid-September.

Last year, BOC also said BOC-Manila International Container Port, DDCAP and Atlas Express facilitated the delivery to recipients of an estimated 400 balikbayan boxes, also originally processed and then abandoned by CMG as pandemic-related community lockdowns prevented delivery.

CMG, according to its website, is an international cargo mover based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It has mainly Filipino staff. The mover has a local office in Las Piñas, Metro Manila.

The company promotes itself as “a reliable moving company in Dubai. With years of experience and excellent staff, we guarantee that you and your properties are 100% safe, organized and protected. We assure you that your items will be safe and secured from the transportation up to the landing process.”

Some Filipino customers, however, angrily called the company staff “liars” in comments on one of the CMG websites.

One sender said he sent his mother a box through CMG with promised arrival before Christmas but three months had passed but there was delivery.

Another complaining client said he sent his box on January 3, 2020, to an address in the Manila area but it did not reach the consignee.
