DB Schenker has established its own legal entity in Laos under the name Schenker (Lao) Sole Co., Ltd, as it moves to expand its presence in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in time for its regional economic integration.

“This step is to enable our customers to take full advantage of the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community regulations and be competitive in the region,” said Victor Lim, DB Schenker’s managing director for Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, during the recent signing agreement.

The company had been operating in the country since 2001 as a representative office of Schenker (Thai) Ltd.

As part of its planned investments in the country, the logistics firm will establish a 3,000-square-meter distribution center in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, targeting the telecommunications, consumer goods, and garments industries.

The fully owned firm also intends to invest in its international land transportation network in Asia, the Landbridge service. “With Laos holding a key geographical position and sharing its borders with some of the most important economies in the region, it is imperative that we grow our international trucking services,” Lim said.
