DAMCO, the logistics arm of the A.P. Moeller-Maersk Group, is confident it will maintain its over 25% annual revenue growth in the Philippines especially with a new country manager at the helm of operations.

Ferdinand “Joey” Tongson was appointed at the start of the month to oversee and manage all forwarding activities throughout the Philippines, including offices in Manila, Cebu and Davao.

“We are pleased to have Joey onboard. It reiterates our commitment to having the best talent to support our customers. With his experience and leadership skills, we are looking forward to continuing our revenue growth of over 25% per annum, supporting our highly diversified customer base and developing our professional staff through the Philippines,” said Jens Wessel, head of Damco for Asia-Pacific.

Prior to his appointment, Tongson was chief operating officer of international forwarding at Agility Logistics where he was responsible for ocean and airfreight products, the Projects Cargo division as well as the Landslide Services Division including Customs Clearance and Brokerage. Tongson also previously held various leadership positions in Geologistics, Translink and Orient Overseas Container Line.

Earlier, Damco said it was on track to meeting targets this year despite the ongoing slowdown in the global economy.

The expected 25% revenue growth this year is anchored on the pharmaceutical and industrial markets.

Maersk Logistics, part of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, acquired Damco Sea & Air in 2005 in connection with the acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd. Damco Sea & Air was the forwarding arm of P&O Nedlloyd and was established in 1988 but operated independently through both wholly owned offices and a network of third party agents.

Last year, Maersk Logistics integrated Dutch freight forwarding company Damco Sea & Air with Maersk Logistics forwarding activities and trades under the name Damco.

Both firms specialize in ocean freight, airfreight, and land-based services such as trucking, customs clearance and document management.
