The Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) has collected P43.674 billion in revenue in February 2018, exceeding its target of P41.709 billion as majority of collection districts beat their goals for the month.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña in a statement said that based on the initial collection report from the agency’s Financial Service, BOC’s February collection is also 41.5% higher than the P30.854 billion collected in the same month last year.

The increase is attributed to the improved collection of majority of BOC’s collection districts, notably by the Manila International Container Port (MICP), Port of Manila (POM), and Batangas.

MICP collected P13.438 billion in revenue last month, up by 4.49% against the P12.861 billion target collection, with a surplus of P577 million.

Port of Manila posted P6.529 billion, exceeding its target of P6.27 billion by 4.1% and with a surplus of P259 million.

Batangas, on the other hand, collected P9.982 billion, 3.4% higher than the P9.6556 billion revenue goal and with a P326 million surplus.

Aside from the three ports, Lapeña said 11 other collection districts contributed to the February 2018 collection.

  • Limay collected P2.544 billion, 0.2% higher than the P2.538 billion revenue goal;
  • Cebu P2.084 billion, 10.9% higher than the P1.879 billion revenue goal;
  • Davao P2.067 billion, 54.4% higher than the P1.339 billion revenue goal;
  • Cagayan de Oro P1.668 billion, 41.6% higher than the P1.178 billion revenue goal;
  • Subic P1.509 billion, 0.5% higher than the P1.501 billion revenue goal;
  • Iloilo P373 million, 65% higher than the P226 million revenue goal;
  • San Fernando P293 million, 28% higher than the P228 million revenue goal;
  • Clark P142 million, 29.1% higher than the P110 million revenue goal;
  • Tacloban P81 million, 324.6% higher than the P19 million revenue goal;
  • Legaspi P53 million, 166.9% higher than the P20 million revenue goal; and
  • Aparri P27 million, or 579.6% higher than the P4 million revenue goal.

BOC noted that Davao has consistently performed well in revenue collection throughout 2017 and in January and February this year.

“Majority or 14 out of the 17 ports of the Bureau of Customs exceeded their collection target for the month and this is mainly because of the intensive campaign against corruption and smuggling,” Lapeña said.

The customs chief has earlier declared his optimism that BOC will hit its target of P598 billion this year.
