The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is set to complete this year its target of filling 1,000 various plantilla positions across the Philippines.

As of September 27, BOC’s Human Resources Management Division has filled 547 plantilla positions nationwide while 899 applications are either set for deliberation or interview.

Internal Administration Group deputy commissioner Donato San Juan said BOC continues to hire new personnel to bolster its capability to enhance trade facilitation and provide a better overall port user experience to stakeholders.

Hiring new staff is also part of BOC’s 10-point priority plan this year to fill 1,000 vacant plantilla positions.

With the current rate of hiring, BOC in a statement said it “will definitely achieve its target of strengthening its manpower in order to effectively perform its mandate of securing our borders nationwide and to collect the proper revenue due government which would greatly help in the development of the country’s economy.”

Customs commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, in a message delivered right after the oath taking ceremony of 64 newly hired and promoted BOC personnel on September 30, reminded them to remain faithful to their sworn duty and to deliver what is expected of them by the general public.
