CMA CGM revamps Asia-Mediterranean network

French ocean carrier CMA CGM said it will remove its Turkey shuttle service and reshuffle its Asia-Mediterranean network from November 2012.

The Marseilles-based box ship will from November 8 do away with its Turkey shuttle service that it jointly operates with Maersk Line. This service, which utilizes eight vessels of 6,500-TEU nominal capacity, links Asia to the Red Sea, Egypt, and Turkey.

But CMA CGM plans to maintain its other four Asia-Mediterranean services, it said in a statement.

The overhauled MEX 3 service covering the Italy and Red Sea routes adds two new calls in Italy (Genoa and La Spezia) as well as new calls in Jeddah, Port Said, and Tangier.

The service will have a port rotation as follows: Xiamen, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Nansha, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Jeddah, Port Said, Malta,  Genoa, La Spezia, Algesiras, Tangier, Malta, Port Said, Port Kelang, and Singapore.

The PHOEX service that operates the trade lanes of Asia-Adriatic, Lebanon and Syria will speed up its transit time by three days. Its new port rotation is Shanghai, Busan, Chiwan, Hong Kong, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Said, Beirut, Trieste, Koper, Rijeka,  Trieste, Port Said, Jeddah, Port Kelang, and Singapore.

The MEX 1 service which serves the West Mediterranean trade will dedicate capacity to the French and Spanish markets.

The new port rotation is Qingdao, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Yantian, Chiwan, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Malta, Valencia, Barcelona, Fos Sur Mer, Malta, Port Said, Salalah, Khor Fakkan, Port Kelang, and Singapore.

The BEX service will add a second call in Korea (Kwangyang). It serves the Asia-Turkey and Black Sea loops.

The new port rotation is Dalian, Xingang, Kwangyang, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Izmit/Evyap, Istanbul/Ambarli, Constanta, Odessa, Iliychevsk, Istanbul/Ambarli, Port Said, Port Kelang, and Singapore.
