CMA CGM enforces GRIs, surcharges from September

CMA CGM has announced a series of general rate increases (GRIs) and surcharges on several of its routes.

Effective September 1, 2011, the new GRI for Asia to West Mediterranean and Adriatic is US$250 per 20-foot-equivalent unit (TEU).

From September 15, the rate from Asia to West Africa goes up by $150 per TEU; from India and Middle East Gulf to East Africa, $200 per TEU; and from India and Middle East Gulf to West Africa, $150 per TEU.

From October 1, the rate hike from North Europe to the Mediterranean is EUR125 per TEU (GBP100) for all cargo moving between North Europe-Scandinavia and Mediterranean ports. From West Mediterranean, East Mediterranean, and the Black Sea to the U.S. East Coast, the GRIs are $200 per TEU and $300 per 40-foot dry and reefer container.

Higher freight rates also apply on the following routes starting October 15: From North Europe to Indian Ocean (on Mascareignes service):  EUR150 per TEU for all cargo moving between North Europe and Mediterranean to Indian Ocean destinations (Réunion/ Mauritius/Madagascar/Mayotte/Comores).

From East Mediterranean, Middle East, Gulf, and India to the Indian Ocean (on Mascareignes service), the new rate is $150 more per TEU for all cargo moving between East Mediterranean, Middle East, Gulf, and India to Indian Ocean destinations (Réunion/ Mauritius/Madagascar/Mayotte/Comores)..

Peak season surcharges, meanwhile, will be enforced by the Marseilles-based liner from September 15 on these routes: Asia to West Mediterranean and Adriatic, $75 per TEU, and Asia to South Africa (Shaka service), $200 per TEU.

There is likewise a port congestion surcharge for all import and export containers loaded at the Chennai port in India, which has been bugged by congestion and traffic snarls over the past few months. The surcharge, levied on September 1, is $85 per TEU.
