Clark International Airport (CRK) is expected to hit the 4-million passenger mark by yearend as the North Luzon gateway has already handled more than 2 million passengers from January to June 2019, its highest passenger traffic figure for the six-month period.

CRK tallied a total of 2.104 million passengers during the first six months, of which 913,724 were international travellers while 1.191 million were domestic passengers, according to Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC). The latest overall figure is 63% higher than the passenger traffic recorded in the same period last year—and the highest half-year number so far in the airport’s 24-year history.

The highest count for one month was recorded last May with 395,847 passengers.

The passenger capacity of the existing passenger terminal building is 4.2 million passengers with a monthly average of 345,000 travellers.

CIAC said it targets breaching the 4-million passenger mark by the year’s end.

Some 11,500 passengers fly via CRK daily, served by a total of 673 weekly flights, with 202 international and 471 domestic flights.

A new passenger terminal building expected to be operational by 2020 will be able to accommodate an additional 8 million passengers yearly.

CIAC noted that CRK garnered a 75.3% on-time performance (OTP) rating from June 2018 to May 2019, and is expected to be awarded a two-star rating by United Kingdom-based air travel intelligence company Official Aviation Guide, which rates airlines and airports yearly.

CRK was awarded a two-star OTP rating in 2018.
